The Weekly Roundup - Jan 17th
A brief collection of articles/annoucements that I'd like to share with my audience.
Happy Friday Family! Hope yall have some amazing plans for the weekend. Before we get started, I wanted to share that my girlfriend and I were able to score some of the pieces from the Adidas Lunar New Year capsule that I recently wrote about while in Taipei City. They only had a few left in our respective sizes so we’re super hype everything worked out. We’re in Tokyo now and will see if we can get our hands on anything else, but if not, we’re happy with this win.

At the end of each week I’ll be sending out a post I’m calling The Weekly Roundup. This will be a small collection of articles across various topics that I think would be good for you to know about if you don’t already. To take it a step further, you may see some of these topics resurface as my think pieces, or connecting the dots for potential changes within companies, geographies, etc.
The State of Luxury: How to Navigate a Slowdown
I’ve increasingly become a fan of industry reports from consulting firms since business school. They’re generally spot on and have some fantastic insights. Luxury fashion tends to take a hit when there’s an economic downturn, but plenty of brands saw an uptick in their top line revenue during the pandemic. That unfortunately has come to an end and yhey’re now facing some major challenges as consumer preferences have shifted along with changes in demand. You’ll see quite a few links to previous articles within this report so you’ll be able to glean a lot of information here.
Kapital, Cult Japanese Clothing Brand, Quietly Joined the LVMH Family
Creatives are becoming increasingly upset that they’re being stifled and can’t do their best work because executives have become hyper-focused on increasing shareholder value. I do agree that it’s part of a CXO’s job to focus on the financial performance of the company he/she/they run, but that’s a hard sell to someone on the other side of the business. It’s also nearly impossible to say no when a behemoth like LVMH starts knocking on your door with a bag. The author of this article feels that things will stay business as usual for Kapital, but from my experience, large companies have a hard time keeping their hands to themselves after spending serious money for a majority stake.
Pharrell Williams Previews New Louis Vuitton Sneakers For 2025
Apologies in advance because this would probably work better if I inserted it into a larger article about pieces/sneakers I love right now, but this couldn’t wait. I’ve genuinely enjoyed watching Pharrell do his thing at the luxury giant lately. These sneakers definitely bring back an element of skateboard culture in terms of the look. The colorways are crazy and I’d love these in my collection one day. Maybe the fashion gods will see to it that I end up with a free pair later this year. That’s how manifesting works, right?
Alright, first week in the books! Appreciate everyone who has signed up to join/support me in this journey. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed getting to bring you my perspective on fashion. And for those of you who are already in the know about a lot of this stuff, I’m thankful for the discourse in my DMs. If there’s any specific content you’d like to see, don’t hesitate to reach out.
Much Love.
